Aspire2 was set up in 2015 by DPS to support students from four DEIS Schools in Dublin and Cork to achieve the best Leaving Cert results possible and increase the percentage of students progressing from these schools to University, Further Education and Apprenticeships. Since then the project has expanded its reach and we now have ten participating schools. We have a range of opportunities available for students. Our goal is for you to get the best Leaving Cert possible. Aspire2 encourages student participation in the programme. Each school has a Youth Advisory Panel. These Youth Advisory Panels are led by the students. We support you to consult with your peers to identify where Aspire2 supports are needed most. As a member you actively influence the programmes development. The Aspire2 mentoring programme happens in small groups. We support students directly to identify your learning needs, develop study skills, set achievable goals and prepare for exams. Past students from the Youth Advisory Panels have stayed involved with Aspire2. These students become advocates for Aspire2 and show leadership and peer support to students currently involved in the programme. For example, in response to Covid-19, our Alumni set up a new “AweZoom Grinds Initiative”. This initiative was set up by past pupils for Leaving Cert students. The project aims to provide peer support through online grinds and mentoring support to students currently sitting their Leaving Cert. I would highly recommend getting involved with the Aspire 2 programme if it is running in your school. From the perspective of someone who is now in college, I have to say that I miss the atmosphere of being on a Youth Advisory Panel. While being on the alumni is quite different from being on a Youth Advisory Panel I still feel as connected to the programme as I did when I was in secondary school. I have loved every moment of being involved with the Aspire 2 programme and aim to be a part of the programme for as long as I can. We're proud to work with amazing partners in delivering great outcomes for young people. We believe that our unique Aspire2 model is an effective solution in redressing the educational inequalities that exist in Irish society. The Aspire2 vision is pursued by supporting students who live in areas of educational disadvantage to increase their prospects of completing the Leaving Certificate and progressing to Third Level education and other forms of further education including Apprenticeships. Students from St. Aidan's Community College, Cork, receiving Aspire2 scholarships. The success of the programme is based on collaboration. At Aspire2 our values are firmly rooted in the values of: These principles guide our relationships between all our participants: Aspire2 provides students with group mentoring, work experience placement, and a number of other social and personal development opportunities. The success of the programme is based on collaboration and the development of a relationship of openness, transparency, co-operation and trust between all the participants: schools, teachers, students, parents, access departments, the sponsoring company and other key stakeholders.  Steering committees in Dublin and Cork oversee the development of Aspire2. These steering groups are made up of the Aspire2 Project Manager, DPS Directors, partner school principals and our access partners from UCD, TCD, ITT, Maynooth University, UCC and CIT. The Aspire2 Project Manager works closely with the partner schools, our access partners and with DPS internally to develop initiatives to deliver our programme vision. In addition to the Steering Groups, DPS have set up an Advisory Group to support the overall strategic development of Aspire2. Since then the programme has gone from strength to strength expanding incrementally and to date the DPS mentors have supported over 3,500 students. After a busy summer engaging with our Youth Advisory panels for fun team-building activities, including an overnight in Glendalough, we embarked on our mentor recruitment, reconnecting and training. We were delighted to welcome onboard all our fantastic Mentors who give so much to our students.The new school term also got off to a great start with a burst of energy! Since September we have worked with our 10 schools, 20 mentoring groups, 10 Youth Advisory Panels (YAP), over 70 amazing mentors and our equally amazing Alumni group. Here is a snapshot of some the areas we’ve been very busy with: The students on our **Youth Advisory Panels (YAP)** across our 10 participating schools in Dublin and Cork have met regularly to discuss Aspire2 supports in their schools. During the mid-term break our Cork YAP groups had the opportunity to visit [University College Cork (UCC)](https://www.ucc.ie/en/) and our Dublin YAP visited [Trinity College Dublin (TCD)](https://www.tcd.ie/). Both groups had a fantastic visit of the campus and engaged in leadership skills training. The students did a great job representing their peers and ensuring their educational needs are being heard, exchanging new thoughts and ideas for their individual schools. Our **Alumni group** support all our YAP activities mentioned and developed a set of recommendations to improve YAP experiences in their schools. They also continue to be busy delivering AwZoom grinds. 5th and 6th Year students across all our schools are delivering various subjects to support all students working towards their Leaving Cert. Our Mentors have also been busy with 40 sessions of mentoring taking place in the schools and DPS offices over the last few months. Sessions ranged from: Our mentors shared their experiences and are truly inspiring people which impacts the students and motivates them to believe in their dreams.
